Our School Motto - We Shall Give Back

At our Private School in Cape Town, we believe in the importance of giving back. All students from Stage 1 to Grade 12 are encouraged to share their time and their skills with those in need of support. Every student takes part in a variety of charitable projects, both voluntary and as part of the curriculum.

The Reddam House Foundation is one example of how we strive to give back, as well as our partnering projects with Future Sparks and our Seed Capital Group. You can read more about the work that we do as a school community with these projects, in the updates below.

Reddam House Foundation

Funding a Diverse and Relevant Education

The Reddam House Foundation aims to create a relevant learning environment at Reddam House Constantia, which emphasises entrepreneurial thinking and tolerance. We aim to admit at least 10 fully-funded Foundation students into the school every year and a minimum of 50 College bursary students at any one time. The foundation grants less economically fortunate families an unparalleled educational opportunity, helping fuel our mission to create and inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs.

What is Relevant Education?

To maintain our high standards, it is imperative that we consistently develop the 'What' and 'How' of our teaching. We understand that to educate future South Africans to make a purposeful impact, it is clear that we need to place a stronger emphasis on entrepreneurial thinking through a diverse student-led learning environment. The future of South Africa belongs to those who will initiate and lead our small to medium-sized businesses.

Make a Difference

To expand the network and communicate with our growing school community, the Foundation has created an easily accessible online magazine.

The CONNECT magazine profiles those moved by the purpose of the Foundation: parents, staff, teachers, students and benefactors. The magazine explains how we plan to develop the entrepreneurial culture of our school while observing the Reddam house motto 'We Shall Give Back'.

The publication also contains content relevant to the public, establishing its place in the community. We hope it encourages people to support us by sharing our excellent independent education with less economically advantaged families.

Future Sparks

Future Sparks (FS) is a non-profit organisation founded in January 2020, and our association with FS began in June 2021. Their mandate is one of social development, supporting teenagers living in Westlake who often attend under-resourced and overcrowded schools. They seek to develop a love of learning, expand horizons and create hope (a self-seen aspirant future).

'The FS tutoring programme focuses on maths and languages, but we help in other learning areas as needs arise. We have developed a structured programme that supports our students to achieve personal goals, address gaps in learning, and stretch and encourage those who are ready for more' - Jenny, FS Founder.

Today, 100 Grade 7 to 12 students are enrolled in the programme. We provide facilities (classrooms and sports fields) for FS, who are on campus four days a week. Our Interact society is also involved, with Reddam students becoming tutors to those within the FS programme. The close of 2025 will see the first FS Grade 7 learners matriculate from school and the programme. We recognise the unique and responsible opportunity our partnership with FS provides. In this way, we are giving back to others, and we are giving back to ourselves.

'We are so grateful for the amazing support that the Reddam School community has given to our organisation, and we look forward to seeing the impact of this work in the years to come. Already, we have had some amazing stories of success. Our programme, with your help, is changing lives for the better. Thank you' - Jenny.

seed capital project

Seed Capital

This is a multi-grade project in which students take the opportunity to make a difference in the communities in which they live. Students are taught valuable skills for entrepreneurship, leadership, organisation and teamwork. As the project has expanded, students have used this group to catalyse other movements, such as beach clean-ups, recycling projects and raising resources for underprivileged schools.

The Reddam Seed Capital Group have been given a new space to plant a garden, to be led by a Matric in 2024, who was part of the group that started the project in 2020 when she was in Grade 9.
